Nature: A Step Outside Your Front Door

Adjacent to Riverrun Luxury Apartments, you will find one of the largest parks in the Winooski Valley Park District, a 100-acre nature preserve containing beautiful wooded land, expansive meadows and a diversity of wildlife, scenic views and fishing. Running right through this is the Winooski Nature Trail, the start of an 8-mile canoe trail to Lake Champlain, and a popular spot for summer concerts and events, picnicking and dog walking.

RIVERWALK BOARDWALK
From Riverrun you can enjoy the convenience of living next to Riverwalk, a boardwalk that meanders around the river in Downtown Winooski and opens up to wooded hiking trails, extending along the Winooski River and Falls. When it opened in 2006, the Riverwalk was a significant milestone in the revitalization of downtown Winooski and it continues to be enjoyed by visitors and locals alike.

WINOOSKI FALLS
Since the first dam was built here in 1786 by Ira Allen, this has been the home of the Winooski Falls. This powerful, scenic landmark is fed by the Winooski River, one of Vermont’s largest rivers.

BURLINGTON INTERVALE
Started in 1988 with the mission of strengthening local community food systems, the Intervale focuses on improving farm viability and promoting sustainable land use through education and unique community-based programming. It is home to the Abenaki Heritage Garden, the Conservation Nursery and the Farms Program, which helps remove barriers to new start-up farming enterprises.

LAKE CHAMPLAIN
Lake Champlain is the 6th largest body of fresh water in the United States and contains over 70 islands. But more impressive still is the beautiful view of the Adirondack Mountains of New York and the Green Mountains of Vermont as well as the stunning backdrop it provides for the many music festivals, carnivals, parks, restaurants, beaches and bike path that Burlington has to offer, all within a short walk from Winooski.

CASAVANT NATURAL AREA
A very scenic trail that follows the Winooski River to the falls, the Casavant Natural Area offers easy hiking, fishing, picturesque rock cliffs and a railroad trestle crossing the River.

GILBROOK NATURAL AREA
Connecting Winooski and Burlington, this land features mostly wooded, flat trails with wetlands, pond, picnic spot and signs describing the ecology of the area.

WOODSIDE NATURE PRESERVE
This nature preserve is great for amateur and expert hikers alike with a diversity of bird and wildlife throughout its 68 acres. Part of Overlook Park, it passes near the Winooski River at several points and contains trails great for hiking, snow shoeing, cross country skiing and running.
